Для меня же, этот День Знаний является первым, когда я не должен идти ни в школу, ни ехать в универ. С ума сойти, на протяжении 16-ти лет, каждое первое сентября я ходил сначала в школу, а затем и в институт. Как же все-таки летит время!

Ну ладно, возвращаюсь к своему любимому английскому языку!

Слова и часто употребляемые фразы по теме «университет»

Университетская жизнь отличается от школьной, а потому и основные понятия там иные:

degree – ученая степень

bachelor’s degree – степень бакалавра

master’s degree – степень магистра

PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) – доктор (любых) наук

course — курс

credit — зачет, зачетная единица

enroll — записаться, поступить

exam — экзамен

faculty — кафедра

pass — cдать (экзамен, зачет)

fail — провалить (экзамен, зачет)

financial aid — финансовая помощь, материальная поддержка

tuition (fees) – плата за обучение

GPA (Grade Point Average) — средний балл успеваемости

Важно! Для слова «учить» в английском языке существуют сразу три варианта: teach, learn, study. В чем же разница?

teach – это то, что делает учитель;

learn – это то, что делает ученик. Иными словами, учиться, получать какое-то умение;

study – изучать, исследовать.

Если сравнивать между собой слова learn и study, отличить их очень просто. Learn всегда обозначает что-то практическое, а study больше относится к теории. Очень хорошо проследить разницу можно на таком примере:

I studied hard but I didn’t learn anything.

Школьные предметы окружают нас не только пока мы учимся, а значит знать их будет особенно полезно:

blackboard — доска

desk — парта

chalk — мел

rubber (BrE)/eraser (AmE) — ластик

Чтобы сказать, в каком классе учится школьник, необходимо использовать предлог in:

I am in year five./I am in fifth grade.

Немаловажная часть школьной жизни — это школьные предметы. Обратите внимание: их названия всегда пишутся с заглавной буквы:

Помимо отдельных слов, незаменимыми будут и такие фразы, как:

go to school/attend school — ходить в школу

excuse from class — отпустить с урока

be home-schooled — обучаться на дому

graduate from school — закончить школу

skip school — прогуливать уроки

be kept in after school — остаться после уроков

repeat a year — остаться на второй год

drop out of school — вылететь из школы

be expelled from school — быть исключенным из школы

В выражениях «ходить в школу», «закончить школу» со словом school артикль не употребляется.

А выразить свое мнение о предмете и школе можно так:

My favourite subject is…/My favourite subjects are… — Мой(и) любимый(е) предмет(ы)…

Most of all, I like…/I like… most of all. — Больше всего, мне нравится….

I am (not) interested in… — Я (не) интересуюсь…

I have difficulties/problems in… — У меня есть сложности/проблемы…
